The main components of a vacuum cooler (1/2)
1. Vacuum room
Basically, vacuum chamber has two requirements. Size and strength.
In the one way, the size of the vacuum room must be reasonable to maintain the products for each cycle to allow possible future changes in pallet stacking or serious stack sizes. We offer a range of rooms that can accommodate single or double track transport systems. The chamber door can be sliding type or vertical lifting type.
In the other way, the vacuum room shall be strong and hard enough to guarantee that the chamber shape cannot be changed by frequent and huge pressure differences between outside and inside of vacuum chamber (This difference means the atmospheric pressure and vacuum condition).
2. Vacuum pump
Vacuum pump is used for the initial evacuation, from the atmospheric pressure to water’s flash point After reaching the flash point, the efficiency of the pump is limited by the refrigeration unit. In general, we will adjust the vacuum pump size to 5-8 minutes to reach the flash point. The type of pump usually used is oil sealed type.
3. Refrigeration equipment
When the pressure reaches the flash point, the water starts to evaporate from the surface of the product. It is this evaporation that reaches cooling. In a machine that cools for example 1000 kg of product per cycle, 1860 m3 of steam will be produced and pumped from the chamber. It takes too long time for vacuum pump to pump so much steam out of the chamber, so a freezer coil “water catcher” is installed in the chamber to re-condensate the steam into the water - the refrigeration unit is actually a vacuum pump. The size of the refrigeration unit has a significant impact on the cooling cycle time.
